‘Pay it back’ kitchen

The challenge of low-energy design fired the imaginations of design graduates in this year’s Concept Products competition at the Ideal Home Show.

The finalists’ designs included this kitchen island by Alexandra Sten Jorgensen of Buckinghamshire Chiltern University College. It’s a sink and preparation surface, where food can be prepared and the waste composted. The compost on one side feeds the growing plant on the other, which is watered by “grey water”. Corian has shown interest.
