ArcelorMittal steel tower growing on East London skyline
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has released new time-lapse footage of the construction of Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond’s Orbit tower on the Olympic Park.
The sculpture, co-designed with Ushida Findlay Architects, is now 70m-tall, almost half of its total height of 114.5m
OPLC executive director of venues and operations Malcolm Ross said: “The ArcelorMittal Orbit is already changing the face of east London’s skyline and will become one of the world’s most spectacular visitor attractions combining cutting-edge design with stunning views.
“It is a truly inspirational structure and iconic symbol for the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.”
Work on the steel structure is due to complete in March 2012.

wouldn't it be good if olympic flame was on the roof.
I think Zecks is right. It needs flames at the top. But that will also look like a disasterfilm. Wait for King Kong to appear. And why is it covered with a spiral of stickytape? Are those Urshida Findlays ideas? Or the Great Anish? Britain is held together with stickytape now. It shows.
Pity the top of the Orbit tower is out of the picture…a rather Jack-in-the-Beanstalk quality
