Mann Island Development by Broadway Malyan
Have your say on this year’s shortlist
From the nominator: “I would like to nominate Mann Island by Broadway Malyan. AKA The 3 disgraces. Who would have thought that Liverpool a World Heritage City deserved to have three giant black coffins dumped on the waterfront. 3 graces next to 3 disgraces.”
Carbuncle cup nominations are now open. Email yours to bdonline@ubm.com or tweet your nomination using #carbunclecup
Any building with a known designer that completed in the last 12 months or is due for completion before the 2012 Olympics is eligible.

When will people realise that a forest of gypnuts and poundlands doesn't make a pretty city?
Better black glass than clad in gold I'd say.
Wasn't this building nominated last year? Can you nominate a building twice??

Don't get me wrong, i think it's a worthy contender

Iit was disqualified on a technicality last year so we decided to allow a second nomination - and we did get quite a few nominations for it this year!

Oooh yes...this is quite bad. But can it really beat the Orbit?
The gold building was more to my taste. I don't like so much black.
I vote this one for the Curbuncle Grand Prize!
Who designs this stuff? Who allows this stuff to go ahead!?!
There are worse. It does not beat the Orbit in my view!
maybe not as many as 12 different sectors like AYAward, guess you could consider to do it in categories as well....
Not quite as Carbuncular as the Orbiter, but a jolly good Carbuncle all the same. I must say it is awfully hideous. Being buried in this would make me turn in my grave.
The river front at Liverpool is very special. Unfortunately, there is nothing special about the quality of this new architecture. It's worst crime is that it appears to have completely turned its back on the 'Three Graces' in an apparent attempt to eke out its own importance. The opportunity to complement the existing fine architecture has been sadly missed.
