Proposals for Huntingdon estate site will be re-submitted in new year

The developer behind Amanda Levete’s controversial 25-storey tower in east London has withdrawn its planning application for the scheme.

The proposals attracted more than 1,000 letters from residents when they were submitted for planning in March, the majority in opposition.

Londonewcastle, which also withdrew plans for Peter Barber-designed affordable housing at nearby Fleet Street Hill, announced the decision earlier this week, but said it remained committed to the scheme.

“Following continued dialogue with officers of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Londonewcastle with UKEI have taken the decision to withdraw the planning applications at the Huntingdon Industrial Estate and Fleet Street Hill,” it said in a statement.

“Revised proposals will be discussed with key stakeholders before the submission of new planning applications early in the new year.”
