BDP, Old Kent Road fire station
Architect working in consortium with Kier on PFI scheme
BDP has been appointed to renovate nine fire stations across London as part of a £57 million PFI programme.
The London practice is part of a consortium led by Kier, selected by the London Fire Brigade.
Stations at Dagenham, Dockhead, Leytonstone, Old Kent Road, Orpington, Plaistow, Purley and Shadwell will be rebuilt on their existing sites, while a new site has been chosen for Mitcham.
Andy Hickmott, assistant commissioner at the London Fire Brigade, said: “Some of our fire stations are over 100 years old and are simply not fit for modern purposes.
“These stations need to be brought up to date, and this project demonstrates our continuing commitment to maintaining the world-class fire and rescue service that Londoners have come to expect.”
Work will start in June 2013.

I wonder if they will still have a pole. I was told recently by a retired fireman that more accidents happen on stairs then ever happened with the pole.
Single Aspect, that would a building regs compliant pole would it?
(Sorry)
I thought the coffers were empty? yet theres £57 million to promise to Kier so they can buid an asset to rent to the London Fire Brigade. PFI was bad for hospitals, bad for schools and now is weasled its way into our fire service. In a few years time there will be a reduced fire service as they will no longer be able to afford the rent on the buildings and to pay for the firemen. Im sure it all makes good business sense if your a mealy mouthed pencil neck looking for short term cash hit before living somewhere else.
