Burwell Deakins Architects appointed for Plymouth arts centre

University building features performance and rehearsal spaces

Burwell Deakins Architects has been appointed to design a new performing arts centre for Plymouth University.

The £7 million building will include a range of specialist performance and rehearsal spaces.

Burwell Deakins director Nicholas Burwell said: “This is a particularly exciting project for the practice as the new Performing Arts Building completes the vision for Plymouth’s cultural quarter, whilst also reinforcing the dialogue between the city and the university.

“Our relationship with the university revolves around a constant exploration of social and educational themes – and how they can be translated and supported by the built environment.”

The 1,600sq m building is the firm’s eighth project for Plymouth University.
