The Bretton, hotel, by EPR and DLA Architecture
Wakefield hotel will also see refurbishment of grade II* mansion
EPR Architects and Wakefield-based DLA have submitted plans for a 120-bedroom hotel and business park at the historic Bretton Hall estate, located within the internationally renowned Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
The proposal is for a refurbishment of the existing Georgian mansion house designed by Sir William Wentworth and Colonel James Moyser.
As well as the restoration of the spectacular interiors of the grade II* building, it proposes the creation of a contemporary new structure alongside, housing a new bedroom wing.
Bretton Hall is owned by Wakefield council, which acquired the campus from the University of Leeds in 2006 to ensure that any development was sympathetic to the adjoining sculpture park.

Seriously? I am a visitor to the sculpture Park and love its landscape, features, and the various galleries. I have commented to my friends about the dreadful modern buildings in the valley.
This hotel is nearly as bad and contributes nothing to the quality of the Park. I do hope that the local planners will agree that a better design is the result. Wakefield is the size of the Hepworth Gallery which is not far away.
