Anthony Ibbitson traded as ARI Design
A magistrates court in Leicester has fined a man for illegally using the title “architect”.
Anthony Ibbitson, trading as ARI Design, was found guilty of breaching Section 20 of the Architects Act 1997 and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,346.
The court was told Ibbitson was not registered with the Arb but had continued to trade as ‘Architects Leicester’ on ARI Design’s website, despite numerous warnings.
Ibbitson did not attend court.

Good on them...however, I notice his website hasn't changed so the fine obviously didn't hit him hard enough.
Presumably, the offender was prosecuted by ARB but fined by the court.
hmm maybe the ARB should sue the band 'Architects' for the flagrant use of the term
...what about "architects" of various description who work in IT?
Caixa,
In this case ARB´ll have to go against the likes of Oracle, MS, Lucent, HP, Apple, Cisco and the list goes on. I don´t think they have teeth for that.
Picking battles you can win and all that.. which boils down to picking on little guys.
The total amount he paid doesn't even cover one semester of the first year of degree.
Another reason why Architectural education is a complete rip off.
Profession is dying guys.
....he didn't even have to bloody turn up at court!
wtf
Why bother qualifying? A moderately succesfull company could afford to pay off these fines out of the £45-70,000 they saved by not going to college.
Exactly Yoshi. Another thing is, how long was this guy using the term Architect illegally? Was it years, maybe a decade? Did he build up a business on this, whilst the rest of us we're putting ourselves in debt? So the fine that he pays doesn't really matter at all considering how long he has practicing illegally. And what's to stop him doing it again. Surely paying under 4K IF YOU GET CAUGHT is a lot cheaper than what students are paying.
