NPPF document out today
Planning minister Greg Clark will later today unveil a 50-page planning document in a bid to speed up development and cut down the amount of red tape.
Changes to the document are expected to include concessions to protect the environment and green belt land.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) document will replace 1,300 guidelines over 44 separate documents which the government hopes will promote growth and put the onus on councils to approve sustainable development.
Clark is expected to tell the House of Commons this afternoon that councils encourage brownfield land in urban areas to be developed first while a “town centre first” provision is also set to be included – an initiative aimed at promoting town centres.
