Grimshaw submits Paddington Crossrail plans

Permission sought for 15-storey office block above station

Plans have been submitted for a 15-storey office block designed by Grimshaw Architects, to be built above the Crossrail station at Paddington in London.

Westminster councillors will consider the plans for a 29,728sq m scheme at the junction of Bishop’s Bridge Road and the Grand Union Canal.

The building will incorporate access to Crossrail, National Rail and Hammersmith & City line services at Paddington.

Retail units will be built at ground level and improvements to the public realm at the front of the Tube station are also proposed.

Ian Lindsay, Crossrail land and property director, said: “This major new commercial development will play an important role in the continued transformation of Paddington.”

A new Hammersmith & City line station is due to be completed at the site in early 2014. Crossrail will open in 2018, operating up to 24 trains an hour between Paddington and Whitechapel.
