Chinese practices and universities also shortlisted

German practice Henn has beaten Hopkins to land a 50,000sq m stadium and sports centre in China.

The shortlist for the Nantong Sports Centre also contained a number of Chinese architects including Wuhan Architectural Design Institute, CCDI Shenzhen, Zhejiang University, and Tongji University.

The project, near Shanghai in the southeast Jiangsu province, includes a stadium with a 400m running track and seating for 10,000 spectators surrounded by smaller independent sports halls for swimming, table tennis and badminton.

In September Henn beat Wilkinson Eyre and Broadway Malyan to land another Chinese project, the Haikou Tower in Hainan.
