Manchester architect only one to stand for post
Stephen Hodder will be the next RIBA president after no other candidate decided to stand against him.
He will be formally elected president elect this September before taking over from incumbent Angela Brady a year later.
The deadline to stand for the post passed yesterday afternoon with Hodder’s name the only one in the ring.
Hodder picked up the inaugural Stirling Prize back in 1996 for the Centenary Building at the University of Salford.
Brady was elected two years on an 18% turnout when she defeated rivals Roger Shrimplin and architecture professor Richard Parnaby to become the RIBA’s second female president when she succeeded Ruth Reed.

This is the best the RIBA can do? Can this be the same Hodder of Stoke Newington Leisure centre 'fame'?
Didn't he pick up the Stirling prize for Stoke Newington Leisure Centre, what?
Angela Brady is nearly over? When is she going to start? Rubbish or what?
I am confident that this is a good appointment by the RIBA.
Stoke Newington Leisure Centre may have faced problems during construction, but it is a far superior facility than most recently completed, lesser known public buildings.
What does he stand for? Unopposed. OMG. If we don't care. who will?
Piers, if you're a member of RIBA, take an interest, keep abreast of the Institute's activities and do something before the deadline, rather than belly-aching about the situation when it's too late.
Maybe I should stand. And much like the 'elections' in hong kong, will only use it as a vehicle to lie to a larger audience
Rod Hull does not know. The centre had problems before, during and after construction. A completion cost 2 to 2 1/2 times the estimated agreed budget can never represent a good service from an architect. In what way is it "a far superior facility than most recently completed lesser known public buildings" ? Assertion does not make it so.
