Lambeth Council has rejected plans for south London’s first fin-shaped skyscraper, designed by Make Architects.

The 75m-high tower building, proposed for 34-48 Albert Embankment in Vauxhall, was refused for a number of reasons, a spokeswoman said.

“The planners felt the size and the mass of the building were inappropriate,” she said.

“There were also issues around the loss of sunlight and the halving of daylight hours to surrounding properties.”

In addition, some apartments within the development did not meet the council’s minimum space requirements, and the scheme did not include enough employment-generating opportunities, especially for the local area, according to the council.

The spokeswoman said: “Only 15% of the scheme was given over to employment use, instead of the required 25%, with no justification provided.

“Also, the building did not promote an acceptable sustainability strategy.”
