Centre will be built at former textile factory
London firm Rashid Ali Architects has unveiled plans to turn a former factory in Manchester into a mosque.
The practice, which was formerly known as RA Projects, will replace the dilapidated textile factory in the city’s Rusholme area with a multi-purpose building that will include a mosque with a capacity for 1,800 worshippers.
Called the Al Furgan Islamic Centre, the building will include event space, café, library, class rooms, offices and a nursery.
The factory is beyond repair so will be torn down with main construction work on the £6.4 million scheme set to start towards the end of next year and take 18 months to complete.
