Work by architects Mario Bellini and Rudy Ricciotti

The Louvre’s new Islamic Art Galleries designed by Italian architect Mario Bellini and French architect Rudy Ricciotti will open next month.

The galleries will display the largest collection of Islamic art in France with more than 2,500 objects being displayed across 3,000sq m.

Officials said the galleries will open up the Paris museum’s courtyard of the Cour Visconti for the first time.

They are the first major new build additions to the museum since IM Pei’s glass Pyramid was added back in 1989.
