Liam O'Connor's Bomber Command memorial
Design by Liam O’Connor commemorates WWII air crew
Liam O’Connor’s Bomber Command Memorial in London’s Green Park has been officially opened by the Queen.
The £7 million structure is to commemorate the 55,573 RAF crew who lost their lives while carrying out night raids over Gemany and occupied Europe during the Second World War.
It includes a bronze statue of an aircrew returning from a mission, sitting within a line of stone columns.
Some 5,000 surviving crew were at the ceremony, which took place yesterday.
