Residential Entrances on Buckingham Palace Road
Design review panel urges council to ensure quality of architecture
Design Council Cabe has urged Westminster council to ensure quality materials are used to make a success of the new public realm at Victoria Station.
The proposals by PLP Architecture and Benson & Forsyth for the Victoria Transport Interchange include plans for new paving, planting, water features and seating, as well as a 13 storey mixed-use building facing onto Buckingham Palace Road.
In its design review DCC said the proposals “offer the prospect of transforming the pedestrian experience of this area”, but added that the local authority “should look to closely condition materials and details in any planning approval to ensure architecture of the highest quality is achieved”.
A new pedestrianised east/west route is also proposed for the Land Securities development, running through the building via a double height passageway.
