Work on Santiago palace to finish in 2014
UK practice Arts Lettres Techniques is part of a team to win an £8 million scheme to restore a place in the middle of Santiago.
The firm is part of local team that has been asked to renovate the Palacio Pereira in the Chilean capital.
Arts Lettres Techniques director Alan Chandler said it was the first job the firm has won in Chile and its second overseas deal after a scheme it carried in Uruguay.
The place dates back to the 1880s but has been a ruin for decades with Chile’s government now deciding it wants to restore it by 2014.
“Because Santiago is in an earthquake zone there are relatively few old buildings,” Chandler said. “The place is one of the best and the oldest.”
