Work will take 18 months to complete

Landscape architect Whitelaw Turkington has been appointed to work on the transformation of the 13 ha Salford Greengate site.

The centrepiece of the scheme is a steel footbridge which will link the site with Manchester on the other side of the river Irwell.

The firm’s £8 million contract is part of the wider £450 million overhaul of the area being masterminded by the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company.

Salford Greengate will be home to 111,000sq m of commercial space, 1,100 residential units and 4,500 new jobs.
The public realm scheme will take 18 months to complete and will include sculptural beacons and water features.
