The Oxford Brookes School of Architecture degree show presents a vibrant cross section of architectural space making using film, models, objects, material experimentation, books and drawings.
Subject matter explored ranges from responsive architecture to post-conflict design and from epic landscape responses to positive proposals for the future city dweller.

Some good stuff here and nicely rendered images. Violation of symmetry & ministry pod look interesting ideas. The pavilion looks a bit pedestrian though, triangular shaped stuff with framework has been done to death a bit in the past I think. Got to say all in all thoough this stuff surpasses the Bartlett work in so many ways from the ideas right though to presentation. Some real architecture here.
How does this have anything to do with Bartlett work?
A lot of the student stuff - from a few schools i've seen - this year is quite depressing...

Zecks, just because you lost our argument last week, bet that was hard to take! lol. Tom, what do this have to do with the Bartlett work? It just demonstrates once again I think that the Bartlett is not the top uni for Architecture in the UK, that people should'nt be looking up to them. There's way better work being done at other Schools of Architecture in this country as we see here, the Bartlett's approach to Architecture is fundamentally flawed.
stewie (or perhaps i should call you Alberti) I am all ears as to why these drawings are 'real architecture' and other drawings are not. Quite how being unilaterally derided equates to winning an argument, is clearly beyond my limited intelligence.
Is it just me or is a lot of this Student work incredibly moody and miserable? (...is this simply a sign of "current economic climate?")
I'm not criticising the work, just the tone of it all. I want Architecture to make me open my eyes and arms not slump into a mad state of depression!
Well Zecks, it quite clearly is beyond your limited intelligence so let me recap for you. We were arguing that the Bartlett lacks the practical skills necessary that Architectural practices needs. This was subsequently supported by four fifths of students and employers in a separate article/RIBA appointments survey only a few days ago blowing your argument that these skills were not necessary at undergrad level out of the water.
Now moving on, these drawings are real architecture as they contain buildings. Little of the Bartlett drawings contain buildings they are either conceptual, fragmented buildings or most often nothing about buildings whatsoever. For me architecture means buildings otherwise you might as well go of and study art and give the course the title architecture which seems to be what they do at the Bartlett. This alone would not be a problem if they just did what they wanted to do, but the fact that they believe themselves to be superior and try to impose their discredited architectual method on all other schools of architecture as what all students must do at undergrad level is beyond arrogance and is not wanted. Many schools out there are doing far better work that the Bartlett both presentation wise and with ideas and actually being able to produce a building such as the school above. There are of course the signs of the Bartlett's overbearing nature to be seen here of course that of the moody & miserable scene's 'WHAT' has picked up upon otherwiae known as dystopia which is all the Bartlett can churn out presentationwise that is capable of meeting any standard, but they fail to ever move past dystopia. In other words the Bartlett really do need to pull their head in, there not all that and have no physical work models or built architecture to justify that they are all that.

Nice to see my old Uni is still churning out good work. The students and staff should be really pleased with themselves. I don't necessarily agree that the work is depressing as some of the renderings have a real spititual quality to them. As for models, well it's good to see they are still being used as a form of presentation of idea's. Finally, let's not get distracted by the 'are they better or worse than the Bartlett argument'. This work should be assessed on its own merits and I for one like it, but then maybe I'm biased :-)
