Architect PKS creates three stunning apartments from single Hampstead plot

PKS has no fewer than four residential projects on its books along one Hampstead street – West Heath Road – which is now known jokingly at the practice as PKS Road. The first to complete is this £3m apartment block at number 51, which may look like one large property but is instead divided into three 3,000 sq ft apartments, each arranged over two levels and with access to substantial outdoor space.

When PKS became involved, the site had permission for a single house. They won consent instead for the multiple accommodation by coming up with a design that maintained the impression of a single property rather than a block of flats.

The architect managed to get the most out of the site by excavating to introduce daylight into the lower ground level. The elevations are mostly white-rendered, with cedar cladding used for contrast on a gabled end element.

The first apartment occupies part of the upper ground floor, all the lower and has a substantial rear garden. The second is arranged over the upper ground and first floors and has a first floor terrace.

The top apartment has a roof terrace with views over the London skyline with accommodation arranged on the first and second floors.

All three Living spaces are positioned with access to each apartment’s private outdoor space, while the bedrooms are located on the other level.

Two of the apartments have sold so far and the next two PKS projects on the street are already on site ¬- an 8-unit apartment block and two houses .
